PermeGear Franz Diffusion Cells
Applications include experimentation in the areas of drug discovery, drug transport, drug screening,
controlled release, formulation optimization, dermatology, skin toxicology, oral absorption, buccal
absorption, percutaneous absorption, equilibrium dialysis and protein binding. The most popular application
is in the development of transdermal and topical pharmaceuticals. However, Permegaer equipment is also
used in basic research or preformulation projects requiring measurement of diffusion coefficients, partition
coefficients, and membrane permeabilities.

PermeGear provides both specialized diffusion cells for research projects, such as iontophoresis and automatic sampling systems for high-output measurements, such as in vitro release from topical pharmaceuticals.
i) PermeGear Static Franz Cells
PermeGear vertical glass diffusion cells are classic Franz cells. Standard orifice diameters are 5mm, 7mm,
9mm, 11.28mm, 15mm, 20mm and 25mm, other diameters are custom.
ii) PermeGear In-Line Cells
PermeGear In-Line Cells are flow cells available in orifice diameters from 3mm to 15mm which were
designed to replace the Bronaugh Cell. They are made from the plastic Kel-F which is the 3M product or
Neoflon which is the Daikin product.
iii) PermeGear Side-Bi-Side Cells
PermeGear horizontal diffusion cells are glass diffusion cells like Crown Glass Company's Side-Bi-Side cells.
Standard Horizontal Cells have orifice diameters from 5mm to 15mm.
iv) V-Series Stirrers for Franz Cells
PermeGear Stirrers are constructed of 1/16" (1.5mm) thick stainless steel. These units do not have
temperature control of any kind, rather they have aluminum supply manifolds mounted toward the rear
which connect to a user supplied water bath and pump or heater/recirculator.
